Pensacola Beach, Florida
|

Pensacola Beach Water Tower.
Although this tower is no longer used to store water it is an iconic
symbol of Pensacola Beach. Maintenance on the structure runs
approximately $13,000-$14,000 per year and the Santa Rosa Island
Authority has the responsibility for repainting it as needed.

Toll Booth at the entrance of Pensacola
Beach. It is the only entrance currently to Pensacola Beach and the toll
is $1 plus 50 cents per additional axle. The toll is paid only
upon entering beach. The toll facility was heavily damaged by both Hurricanes
Ivan and Dennis. At present the building is being upgraded and repaired
and the toll collection equipment is being replaced to make it more
efficient. Toll booth renovations should be complete in the fall
of 2006.

Historical Pensacola Beach sign in Gulf
Breeze pointing the way to Pensacola Beach.
The sign was moved in 1961 from its original
location on top of a building on the southwest corner of Gregory and
Palafox streets in downtown Pensacola to its current location on U.S.
98. This famous sign has pointed visitors and locals alike
toward Pensacola Beach for over 40 years and has only been replaced once
in that time. In Nov. 2003, the original sign was put up for auction and
became a decoration for Flounder's Chowder House on Pensacola Beach.
The sign has been totally
overhauled from the damages it received from Hurricanes Ivan, Dennis, Katrina, and
numerous tropical storms.
